The short version
Each line below has its own guide with the full detail and sources.
Release date and unlock time
Modern Warfare 4 releases Thursday, October 22, 2026, the date on the Steam US page. Unlock times vary by region. The publisher says the full game unlocks at midnight local time (Call of Duty blog, September 29, 2026), and no official per region unlock hour has been published. See release date and unlock time.
Editions
Activision lists a Digital Standard Edition, a digital only Vault Edition and Physical Editions on consoles (Activision Support). See Modern Warfare 4 editions.
PC and Xbox platforms
PC through Battle.net, Steam and Xbox on PC, and Xbox Series X|S. The publisher says it "will not be available on PlayStation 4 or XBOX One" (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026). See Modern Warfare 4 platforms.
Beta access
The beta has ended. The Open Beta closed September 1, 2026 at 10 AM PT. See Modern Warfare 4 beta.
PC system requirements
Minimum is Windows 10 64 bit, 8 GB RAM and an SSD with 115 GB available space at launch, with TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot required. See PC system requirements.
Game Pass status
Not at launch. The publisher calls it "a standalone release" and says it will not be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027 (Call of Duty blog, October 15, 2026). See is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass.
Which key do you need?
Match the key to where you play. A Steam key activates in Steam, a Battle.net key activates in Battle.net, and they do not swap. An Xbox key works on Xbox Series X|S, and the Xbox page lists Xbox Play Anywhere, so a digital Xbox purchase covers Xbox console and PC (Xbox). The full answer is in which key Modern Warfare 4 uses on PC and Xbox. Neither PC launcher is a better choice; pick the one you already use.
Other launch platforms
The game also launches on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
