The Modern Warfare 4 beta has ended. Early Access ran August 21 to 25, 2026 for pre-order players or Beta Code holders, and the Open Beta ran August 28 to September 1 for everyone on PC and Xbox. Beta Codes only worked for the Early Access weekend, per the publisher. Digital pre-orders get Campaign and DMZ Early Access instead.

The beta is over

The Open Beta was scheduled to end at 10:00 AM PT on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 (Call of Duty blog, August 26, 2026). No further beta or free trial has been announced on the official pages we checked today.

How the two weekends worked

Early Access weekend: August 21 to 25 (PT)

Early Access began at 11:00 AM PT on Friday, August 21 and was scheduled to end at 10:00 AM PT on Tuesday, August 25, on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Steam and Battle.net. Access came from redeeming a Beta Code or pre-ordering the game (Call of Duty blog, August 21, 2026).

Open Beta: August 28 to September 1 (PT)

The Open Beta ran from 10:00 AM PT on Friday, August 28 to 10:00 AM PT on Tuesday, September 1, on the same platforms plus Nintendo Switch 2. The publisher said "No pre-order or Beta Codes are needed."

Beta Codes: only for the Early Access weekend

The publisher says "Beta Codes are only useful for the Early Access Beta." That weekend ended August 25, so a Beta Code has no use now. Ignore any offer of one.

Did the beta need Game Pass on Xbox?

The Xbox page footnote says a "Game Pass Essential subscription may be required for MP Beta" (Xbox). The Call of Duty blog says an "online multiplayer subscription may be required." Neither page says more.

What to play now

Digital pre-order or pre-purchase players have Campaign Early Access from October 16 and DMZ Early Access from October 20 (PT) (Call of Duty blog, October 16, 2026). The full game launches Thursday, October 22, 2026. Unlock times vary by region. See release date and unlock time. Cosmetic beta rewards earned during the beta are tied to your Activision Account and are due in the full game at launch, per the publisher.

Beta PC specs differed from launch specs

The beta specs on Battle.net news listed, for example, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i5-8400 and 12GB RAM at minimum, and said they "may differ from the PC specifications for the full game at launch" (Battle.net news). Use the launch specs in Modern Warfare 4 PC system requirements.
