Modern Warfare 4 Key Types on PC and Xbox: Which One You Need

Short answer by platform

PC: Battle.net key or Steam key

Activision says PC players can prepurchase on Battle.net and Steam (Activision Support, editions article, checked October 20, 2026). A Battle.net key activates in Battle.net. A Steam key activates in Steam. They are not interchangeable.

Xbox Series X|S: Xbox key

An Xbox key is redeemed on your Microsoft account (Xbox Support).

Xbox on PC through Xbox Play Anywhere

Activision's footnote says that players who buy through the Xbox Series X|S store or the Xbox on PC store "will gain access to the game on both platforms," and that Xbox Play Anywhere needs an internet connection. Only rely on this if the listing you buy from says Xbox Play Anywhere, or Windows and Xbox.

Steam or Battle.net: what actually differs for you

The game is the same. What differs is where it lives:

• Launcher. The game opens from the launcher you activated it in.
• Friends list. Your friends list in that launcher is the one you see.
• Library. The game sits in that account's library, not the other one.

Pick the launcher you already use. Neither one is a better or safer choice. Activision also lists PC requirements, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot, in the same article; read them there.

Not on Xbox One or PlayStation 4

The Call of Duty blog states the game "will not be available on PlayStation 4 or XBOX One" (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026, checked October 20, 2026). A key labeled Xbox One does not match any version.

Not in Game Pass at launch

The Call of Duty blog says Modern Warfare 4 launches "as a standalone release and will not be available on Game Pass at launch," and that it will not be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027 (Call of Duty blog, October 15, 2026, checked October 20, 2026).

Editions

Activision lists a Digital Standard Edition, a digital only Vault Edition, and physical editions for consoles. Bonus content and its timing are set by the publisher per edition and date, so read the current list on the editions article rather than relying on a summary. We do not promise pre-order bonuses with any key.

Before you buy

1. Platform. Battle.net, Steam or Xbox, matching where you play.
2. Region label. Match it to your account region. See region locked Steam keys.
3. Edition. Digital Standard or Vault Edition, as named by the publisher.
4. Bonus timing. Early access and pre-order bonuses depend on the purchase date. Check the publisher page.
