Modern Warfare 4 Platforms: PC and Xbox, Explained

Yes. Modern Warfare 4 is on PC and Xbox. PC players can use Battle.net, Steam or Xbox on PC, and Xbox players need Xbox Series X|S. The publisher says it is not available on Xbox One. Xbox digital purchases support Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers Xbox console and PC.

Supported platforms

The publisher lists Xbox Series X|S and PC (Battle.net, Xbox on PC and Steam) for launch (Call of Duty blog, May 28, 2026). It also launches on PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

PC: Battle.net, Steam and Xbox on PC

The publisher's PC post says the game launches "for XBOX on PC, Battle.net, and Steam" (Call of Duty blog, September 29, 2026). The Xbox page lists Windows 10/11 as a platform (Xbox). Each launcher needs its own key: a Steam key does not work in Battle.net, and the reverse is also true. The official PC system requirements are the same across all three, including TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.

Xbox Series X|S only, not Xbox One

The publisher says the game "will not be available on PlayStation 4 or XBOX One," and the Xbox page repeats "not available on XBOX One." A key labeled Xbox One does not match any version.

Xbox Play Anywhere: buy once, play on Xbox console and PC

The Xbox page shows the Xbox Play Anywhere badge with the line "Buy once, play on XBOX console and PC." Activision's footnote says players who buy through the Xbox Series X|S store or the Xbox on PC store "will gain access to the game on both platforms," and that Xbox Play Anywhere needs an internet connection (Activision Support).

Xbox's own explainer says Xbox Play Anywhere applies only to digital games, and that progress, add-ons and achievements carry across Xbox console and Windows PC (Xbox Play Anywhere). It covers Xbox purchases only. It does not apply to a Steam or Battle.net key.

We could not confirm whether a Vault Edition upgrade bought on one device carries across under Xbox Play Anywhere for this game.

Crossplay and friends

The publisher's launch post mentions "crossplay-enabled squads" and adding friends in game with Activision IDs (Call of Duty blog, October 16, 2026). That is all it says. Check the in game settings for details. We could not confirm cross progression rules for the full game today.
