Is Modern Warfare 4 on Game Pass? Not at Launch
No. Modern Warfare 4 is not on Game Pass at launch. It launches October 22, 2026 (Steam US date). The publisher says it is a standalone release that must be bought separately, and it will not be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027. Game Pass Ultimate keeps older Call of Duty titles.

The answer: no, a standalone release
The Call of Duty blog says Modern Warfare 4 launches as a standalone release that "will not be available on Game Pass at launch," and that "players must purchase it separately" (Call of Duty blog, October 15, 2026). Xbox Wire ran the same announcement (Xbox Wire, October 15, 2026). The official Xbox page says the game is "not available with Game Pass at Launch" (Xbox).
When it may join: Holiday 2027
The publisher's wording is that the game "will not be included with Game Pass until Holiday 2027." No month, date or Game Pass tier has been given. We do not guess one, and we will update this page when an official date appears.
What Game Pass Ultimate still includes
The same post says Game Pass Ultimate subscribers "will continue to have access to legacy Call of Duty titles": Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III.
Game Pass players and pre-order rewards
Activision says currently active Game Pass Ultimate, Premium and PC subscribers who played a qualifying Call of Duty title through Game Pass are eligible for a loyalty offer when they pre-order on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC (Activision Support). That offer ends at launch, and its terms are on the publisher page. Separately, the Xbox page notes that online multiplayer on console requires a Game Pass Essential subscription.
Buying instead: PC and Xbox options
To play at launch you need to own the game:
- Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC: an Xbox key. The Xbox page lists Xbox Play Anywhere, so one digital purchase covers Xbox console and PC.
- PC through Battle.net or Steam: a key for that launcher. The two do not swap.
