Steam Key Global vs Europe: What the Region Label Means Before You Buy
A region label tells you where the seller says a key is meant to work. A key marked EUROPE may not work on an account registered outside Europe, while a GLOBAL key has broad availability but can still carry country exceptions, usually shown in the listing's important notice or activation details (Eneba). What decides activation is the region of your account, not where you are right now. Read the full listing before you pay. The same check applies to Xbox codes. AskLoot shows the region label each seller gives.

Does a Global key work everywhere?
Not always. Eneba notes that a product marked GLOBAL can still have country exceptions, and that these are usually listed in the product page's important notice or activation details (Eneba). Before you pay, look for:
- An important notice or warning box on the listing
- Activation instructions
- Any line that names countries where the key cannot be activated
If the listing does not make the region clear, treat it as unclear and see the last section below.
What does a Europe key mean?
A key marked EUROPE is intended for accounts registered in Europe and may not work on an account registered outside Europe (Eneba). The exact country list is not printed on the label itself, so do not assume one EUROPE listing covers the same countries as another. If your country is borderline for you, for example the UK, check the listing's notice or ask support before buying.
Your account region decides, not where you are
Your current physical location is not always the same as your account region. Your Steam or Xbox account may be registered to a different country than the one you are in today (Eneba). The key has to match the account.
A VPN can also trip you up before you buy. Eneba warns that a VPN can affect automatic location detection, so turn it off or confirm the product region by hand before checkout (Eneba).
What do NA, LATAM, RU/CIS and ASIA mean?
Eneba's listings use labels like GLOBAL, EUROPE, NA, RU/CIS, LATAM and ASIA (Eneba). In plain language:
- NA: intended for North America.
- LATAM: may be limited to selected Latin American countries.
- RU/CIS, ASIA: intended for those groups of countries. The listing should explain which ones.
G2A, another marketplace, says on its own page that sellers may list region locked keys but must mark the region they can be activated in, for example LATAM (G2A). Whatever the label, the listing's own notice is what to trust.
Does this apply to Xbox keys too?
Yes. Eneba says an Xbox code must match Xbox or Microsoft account rules, and that region checks apply to Xbox Game Pass codes as well as game keys (Eneba). Microsoft's own Terms of Sale say available products can vary by region, and that changing your account to another region can affect access to content you bought (Microsoft Store Terms of Sale, sections 5 and 10).
Can I use a VPN to make a key work?
No. Section 3.A of the Steam Subscriber Agreement says you agree not to use IP proxying or other methods to disguise where you live, including to get around geographical restrictions on game content, and that Valve may terminate your access to your account if you do (Steam Subscriber Agreement). Microsoft's Terms of Sale say you may not use VPNs, proxies or similar tools to obscure your location for redemptions, and that Microsoft may block or reverse a transaction if you do (Microsoft Store Terms of Sale, section 5).
What to do when the label is unclear
- Ask the marketplace's support before paying, and keep their answer.
- If there is no clear answer, pick another listing whose region clearly matches your account.
- If you already bought a key and it will not activate, read our guide on what to do with a region locked Steam key.
How AskLoot shows the region on each offer
AskLoot is an AI deal finder for PC and Xbox game keys. You ask in plain English, for example "Red Dead Redemption 2 Rockstar key", and see offers with a region label wherever the seller gives one. Every seller is clearly labeled, and the region label you see is the one that seller gives the key. Keys may not be available for every game yet. If a seller gives no region, check the store page before you buy.

FAQ
Does a Global Steam key work in the US?
Usually a GLOBAL key has broad availability, but some listings carry country exceptions. Check the listing's important notice for the US before paying.
Will an EU Steam key work in the UK?
It depends on that listing. The label alone does not give the full country list, so read the notice or ask support before you buy.
What does LATAM mean on a key?
It means the key may be limited to selected Latin American countries. It may not work on an account registered elsewhere.
Can I use a VPN to activate a region locked key?
No. Both the Steam Subscriber Agreement and the Microsoft Store Terms of Sale prohibit using a VPN or proxy to get around region rules.
What happens if I activate a key from the wrong region?
It may not activate on your account. See region locked Steam key: what to do next.
