Does GTA 6 Have Cross Play? What We Know Before the Nov 19 Launch
GTA 6 cross play is not confirmed. Rockstar has published no statement on cross play or cross progression between PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game launches November 19, 2026, and Take-Two and PlayStation both describe it as "a single-player experience," so there is no shared multiplayer session to cross play in at launch. There is no GTA 6 PC key.

Cross play, cross progression and cross buy
- Cross play: players on different platforms join the same session, for example a PS5 player and an Xbox player in one lobby.
- Cross progression: your progress or items follow you from one platform to another.
- Cross buy: buying once gives you the game on more than one platform.
A game can have one and not the others. For a single-player story, cross play does not apply.
Why there is nothing to cross play in at launch
Take-Two's pre-order announcement says GTA 6 "features a single-player experience." The PlayStation game page FAQ answers the multiplayer question with "Grand Theft Auto VI is a single-player experience."
Rockstar has not announced an online mode for GTA 6 or a date for one. Our GTA Online at launch page tracks that question.
What GTA Online history shows (and what it does not)
Rockstar Support's GTA Online migration article describes a one-time profile move from PS4 to PS5 and from Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. It says progress made on different console generations "will not be synced after migration," and that progress "cannot be migrated between PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and PC."
That is the record for GTA 5's online mode. It is not a statement about GTA 6, and we do not predict what Rockstar will do.
If you are choosing PS5 or Xbox
Since cross progression and cross buy are not confirmed:
- Pick the console you will play on. Plan on your purchase and save staying on that platform.
- Weigh where your friends play lightly. Any future online mode, and whether it has cross play, is not confirmed.
- Xbox Series S owners: the platform label "Xbox Series X|S" covers Series S. Resolution and graphics settings per console are not confirmed by Rockstar. See Series S vs Series X.
- Download size is not published by Rockstar or Microsoft. See GTA 6 Xbox download size.
- Pre-load: Take-Two says digital pre-orders can pre-load from November 12, 2026.
- Do not buy a "GTA 6 PC key." There is no GTA 6 PC key. Any listing for one is not an official product.
