Games Like GTA 5 to Play on PC While GTA 6 Launches on Console

Why this list exists

Take-Two and the Xbox game page list GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC version or a PC date (see our GTA 6 hub). There is no GTA 6 PC key, so any listing that claims to sell one is not an official product. Our GTA 5 on PC while you wait page covers that in detail.

If you are a PC player and want an open world crime story or a city sandbox in the meantime, the games below are on Steam today. We ranked them by the Metacritic score Steam displays for each game. Where Steam shows no score, we say so and leave it unranked.

How we ranked

• Score: the Metacritic score shown on the game's Steam store page on November 2, 2026. We did not average or adjust it.
• Fit: each pick has at least one of the things people like in GTA 5: a crime story, a large city or open world to mess around in, or driving and chaos.
• Status lines: Steam Deck status is Valve's own rating from the Steam store. PC Game Pass status is from the Xbox Game Pass catalog for the US, checked the same day. Game Pass libraries change every month.

The ranked list

1. Red Dead Redemption 2 (Metacritic 93)

Rockstar's own open world western, released on PC on December 5, 2019. It is the nearest thing to a Rockstar story you can play on PC right now: a long narrative, a huge map, and an online mode.

• Steam Deck: Playable
• PC Game Pass (US): not in the catalog on November 2, 2026
• Steam user reviews (English): Very Positive, 92% positive
• Price: From $13.75, checked Nov 2, 2026

2. Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth (Metacritic 89)

A crime drama from RGG Studio set in Yokohama and Hawaii, with turn based combat and a lot of side activities. It is less about driving and more about story and city life.

• Steam Deck: Verified
• PC Game Pass (US): in the catalog on November 2, 2026

3. Cyberpunk 2077 (Metacritic 86)

A first person open world RPG set in Night City. If the city is the part of GTA you love, this is the strongest pick on the list. Steam notes that some off-topic review periods are excluded from its review score.

• Steam Deck: Verified
• PC Game Pass (US): not in the catalog on November 2, 2026
• Steam user reviews (English): Very Positive, 89% positive
• Price: From $22.84, checked Nov 2, 2026

4. Yakuza 0 (Metacritic 86)

A 1988 crime story in Tokyo and Osaka, and the usual starting point for the Like a Dragon series. Brawling, side stories and arcade minigames fill the city.

• Steam Deck: Verified
• PC Game Pass (US): not listed under that name on November 2, 2026

5. Saints Row IV: Re-Elected (Metacritic 86)

The most over the top pick here. If what you liked about GTA 5 was causing chaos, this is the one. It has online co-op.

• Steam Deck: Playable
• PC Game Pass (US): not in the catalog on November 2, 2026

6. Mafia: Definitive Edition (Metacritic 78)

A remake of the 2002 original, set in a 1930s American city. It is a linear story with period cars and a strong gangster tone.

• Steam Deck: Playable
• PC Game Pass (US): not in the catalog on November 2, 2026
• Steam user reviews (English): Very Positive, 87% positive

7. Just Cause 3 (Metacritic 74)

A physics sandbox on a large island. The story is thin, but the grappling hook, wingsuit and explosions are the point.

• Steam Deck: Playable
• PC Game Pass (US): not in the catalog on November 2, 2026

Also worth a look (no Metacritic score on Steam)

These fit the theme, but Steam did not show a Metacritic score for them on November 2, 2026, so we did not rank them.

• Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition. An undercover cop story in Hong Kong with driving and martial arts. Steam Deck: Playable.
• Watch Dogs 2. A hacker sandbox set in the San Francisco Bay Area. Metacritic (PC): 75. Steam Deck: Unsupported. In the PC Game Pass catalog (US) on November 2,
• Mafia: The Old Country. Released August 7, 2025, set in Sicily. Metacritic (PC): 73. Steam Deck: Unsupported.

What about GTA 5 itself?

GTA 5 is on PC. Steam lists Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, released on Steam on March 4, 2025, and Valve rates it Unsupported on Steam Deck. If you never finished the story, or you want GTA Online on PC, it is still the obvious pick. AskLoot pages: GTA 5 on PC and GTA 5 on Xbox. Price: From $10.19 on PC, checked Nov 2, 2026. Note that Rockstar Support says GTA Online progress cannot be migrated between PlayStation 4 or Xbox One and PC, so a PC character starts fresh.

Quick comparison table

All checked November 2, 2026. Game Pass status can change at any time.

Before you buy a key

Check the activation platform (most of these are Steam keys) and the region label before you pay. Our Black Friday key safety checklist covers the five checks, and how to redeem a Steam key covers the errors. AskLoot compares key offers for PC and Xbox, shows the key type and region, and labels grey market sellers. It does not cover every game.
