Is CDKeys Safe? How the Store Works and Where the Risk Sits

CDKeys is a real, operating key store, and it now trades as Loaded. Loaded says "CDKeys is now Loaded" and that old accounts, orders and valid codes still work. Unlike a marketplace, it sells keys itself, and it says it sources them from "an extensive network of suppliers" around the world. It is not a publisher or a platform, so where a given key came from is not something you can check. Its refund rule covers keys that have not been revealed, within seven days.

CDKeys and Loaded: same store

Loaded's FAQ (checked November 2, 2026) says:

  • "CDKeys is now Loaded. We've updated our name and look, but we're still the same digital game store."
  • "Your account, orders, purchases, and support access remain available as normal."
  • "Any valid code purchased from CDKeys will continue to work as normal, subject to the original product terms and platform redemption rules."

Loaded's blog dates the rebrand to August 2025. If you search "CDKeys" today you will land on loaded.com.

How the store works

It sells keys itself. Loaded describes itself as "a global online digital game key store selling codes for PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games." That is different from a marketplace such as Kinguin or G2A, where many third-party sellers list offers. With Loaded, the store you pay is the store you deal with.

Where the keys come from. Loaded's FAQ answers "Why are your products so cheap?" by saying its team has "an extensive network of suppliers and contacts from which to source products," and that "we buy from all corners of the globe." It does not name its suppliers. AskLoot cannot verify the source of any individual key, and neither can a buyer.

Billing. Loaded's FAQ says prices display in major currencies, but "you will be billed in GBP." If your card is in US dollars, your bank may add a foreign transaction fee. Check your card terms.

Delivery. Loaded says keys arrive by email or in your account, and to contact support if a key has not arrived within 10 minutes. Pre-order keys are "typically" emailed on release day.

Where the risk sits

Neutral facts first: the store is real, it has published refund rules, and it offers support. The risk is in what any non-official seller cannot show you:

  • Key source. If a key was obtained in a way the publisher did not allow, the publisher or platform can act on it later. Valve lets developers ban Steam keys that were "stolen or purchased fraudulently." Microsoft's Store terms say its products are for end users and not for resellers.
  • Region. A key sold at a low price may be meant for a different region. Check the region on the product page against your account.
  • Platform rules. Microsoft's terms prohibit using a VPN or location masking for Store redemptions. Never use a VPN to redeem a key. See our page on Argentina and Turkey Xbox keys and VPN risk.
  • No platform refund. Valve "cannot provide refunds for purchases made outside of Steam," and Microsoft tells you to contact the retailer about a wrong code.

Loaded's refund rule

From Loaded's support article "What's your refund policy?" (checked November 2, 2026):

  • A refund is possible if the key "has not been revealed, redeemed, or activated."
  • You must ask "within seven calendar days of purchase."
  • "Each request is reviewed individually."
  • Refunds go to the original payment method, but if a payment method has a time limit, Loaded may refund to a Loaded Gift Card instead.
  • Crashes, performance and compatibility problems are not refundable by Loaded; it says those "must be resolved by the game's developer or publisher."

So the key moment is revealing the code. Do not reveal it until you are ready to redeem.

If a key fails

  1. Do not retry many times, and do not use a VPN.
  2. Screenshot the exact error. On Steam, "Invalid Product Code" means Steam does not recognize the key, and a duplicate code error means it is already registered (Steam Support).
  3. Contact Loaded support through its Support Requests form with the order number, platform, account region and screenshot.
  4. If the store does not fix it, the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau says your credit card company may be able to reverse the charge, and to send a billing error notice within 60 days of the statement.

Checklist before you buy

  1. Region on the listing matches your account.
  2. Platform is right: Steam, Xbox or Microsoft Store PC.
  3. Edition is right.
  4. You know the charge is in GBP.
  5. You will not reveal the key until you redeem it.
  6. You compared with the official store page.
